How to adopt a child from Pakistan if you already live abroad.

This page is for families in the UK, UAE, Saudi Arabia, the United States, Canada and Europe. The court process happens in Pakistan. You do not have to move back to run it.

Start with the word people search — then use the word the court uses.

People abroad search “child adoption from Pakistan.” Pakistani Family Courts do not grant Western-style adoption. They appoint a guardian under the Guardians and Wards Act, 1890. Day to day that is how a family obtains the right to raise a child, enrol them in school, and apply for travel papers. Inheritance and parentage do not flip automatically. KBL & Associates will not pretend otherwise on a first call.

What we do

Assess the facts, list the documents your country of residence must attest, prepare the power of attorney, file in the Family Court that has jurisdiction, appear at hearings, and obtain the guardianship certificate.

Who we advise

Overseas Pakistanis first. Also non-resident families where Pakistani law can still appoint them guardian. Resident Pakistanis are not the marketing target of this page.

What we will not promise

A destination-country visa, a rewritten birth certificate, or a result the judge has not yet granted. Those sit with the foreign immigration authority and with the court, not with a website.

Process

What happens if you never leave your city.

01

WhatsApp briefing

Country of residence, relationship to the child, whether the child is with family or with the Child Protection Bureau.

02

Document pack

Passport or NICOP, proof you live abroad, marriage certificate if relevant, evidence you can support the child.

03

Power of attorney

Signed and attested where you live so a Lahore advocate can appear without you on the plane.

04

Family Court

Petition, notice, welfare inquiry if ordered, hearings, guardianship certificate. Updates by WhatsApp.

After the Pakistani order

The Pakistani certificate is not a foreign visa.

UK Home Office, UAE immigration, USCIS, IRCC and European missions apply their own rules to a child leaving Pakistan. We flag that on day one so a family does not treat the Family Court order as the last document they will ever need. We handle the Pakistan court file. Destination-country applications are a separate instruction, often with local counsel in that country.

FAQ

Questions families ask first.

Is child adoption legal in Pakistan?

Pakistan has no adoption statute. Instead, courts grant guardianship under the Guardians and Wards Act, 1890, which gives a family the legal right to raise and care for a child without severing the child’s biological lineage or creating automatic inheritance rights.

Can overseas Pakistanis adopt or become guardians of a child in Pakistan?

Yes. Overseas Pakistanis can file a guardianship petition through a lawyer in Pakistan acting under power of attorney, and in most cases do not need to be physically present in Pakistan for the case itself.

Do I need to travel to Pakistan to get guardianship of a child?

Usually not. With an attested power of attorney, a lawyer can represent the applicant throughout the Family Court proceedings. Physical presence is typically only relevant if the court specifically requires it.

What is the difference between adoption and guardianship in Pakistan?

Adoption in the Western sense does not exist under Pakistani law. Guardianship, granted under the Guardians and Wards Act 1890, gives custodial rights and responsibilities but does not sever the child’s biological lineage or confer automatic inheritance rights.
