Child adoption from Pakistan if you live in Saudi Arabia.
For overseas Pakistanis on iqama in Riyadh, Jeddah and the Eastern Province who need a Family Court in Pakistan to appoint them guardian.
Pakistan-side court work, from Lahore. You stay where you live.
KBL & Associates files and argues the guardianship petition in the Family Court that has jurisdiction over the child. The legal label in Pakistan is guardianship under the Guardians and Wards Act, 1890 — not Western adoption. That is explained on the first WhatsApp, not after the certificate.
Built for the Saudi attestation chain
Saudi authorities do not read Urdu or English court orders off the page. In practice a custody or guardianship decree is translated into Arabic and attested by the Saudi embassy in the country where it was issued and then by the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs. We prepare the certified set with that chain in mind rather than handing you a court file and wishing you luck.
The biological father’s permission is usually asked for separately
Residency files for a child who is not the sponsor’s own child commonly attract a request for a separate, attested permission from the biological father for the child to travel to and reside in the Kingdom — even where a custody document already exists. We plead and document that consent in Pakistan, where the father is, rather than leaving you to chase it from Riyadh.
Iqama is a Jawazat decision, not a court decision
A Pakistani guardianship certificate does not put a child on your iqama. That is decided by the General Directorate of Passports through the Istiqdam process, case by case, and your employer’s government relations officer will be involved. We give you a clean document pack; the Saudi end is Saudi.
How a Saudi file runs.
For iqama holders in Riyadh, Jeddah, Dammam, Khobar and the industrial cities.
Check the Saudi end before the Pakistani end
Ask your employer’s GRO, or a Saudi adviser, what Istiqdam will want for a child who is not your biological child. The answer shapes what we ask the Pakistani court for. This one conversation saves the most money.
Power of attorney on your next leave, or from the Kingdom
Executed at the Pakistan Embassy in Riyadh or the Consulate General in Jeddah, or notarised and apostilled. Many clients simply sign it on their annual leave in Pakistan, which removes the step entirely.
Petition, consents, welfare inquiry
Filed in the Family Court with jurisdiction over the child. Where the biological parents are alive and willing, their consent is recorded properly and on the record — that record is what the Saudi file later leans on.
Certified set, Arabic-ready
Certificate, order, consents and identity documents assembled as one set, so translation and attestation happen once instead of three times.
What the Saudi side does with a Pakistani order.
This is a description of commonly reported Saudi residency practice, not our advice on Saudi law. We are Pakistani counsel. Confirm current requirements with Jawazat, Istiqdam or your employer’s GRO.
Arabic translation plus a double attestation is the normal expectation
Family documents submitted for a Saudi residence file — marriage certificates, birth certificates, custody and guardianship decrees — are routinely required in Arabic translation, attested by the Saudi embassy in the issuing country and by the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Documents that skip a link in the chain get returned at the counter.
A custody document is often not treated as sufficient on its own
Residents bringing stepchildren and other non-biological children into the Kingdom frequently report being asked for an additional attested permission from the child’s father, specifically for travel to and residence in Saudi Arabia, on top of the custody papers. Assume it will be asked for and have it ready.
Sponsorship conditions sit on top
Salary thresholds, dependent fees, medical insurance and the employer’s cooperation all apply to the residency application and are unaffected by anything a Pakistani court decides.
Two hours, and our weekends do not line up.
- Lahore is UTC+5, two hours ahead of Saudi Arabia all year. A 10:00 AM hearing in Lahore is 8:00 AM in Riyadh.
- Your weekend is Friday and Saturday. Our office works Monday to Saturday, and Pakistani courts sit Monday to Friday. Your Thursday evening message is answered before your weekend ends.
- Most Saudi clients are on rotating shifts. Tell us your window once and we will keep calls inside it.
Straight answers.
Not automatically. A Pakistani guardianship certificate is a family-law order; Saudi residency for a dependent is decided by the General Directorate of Passports through the Istiqdam process, case by case. In practice the file requires Arabic translation, attestation by the Saudi embassy in the issuing country and by the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and usually an attested permission from the biological father. Confirm current requirements with your employer's GRO.
Reported practice is a certified Arabic translation, attestation by the Saudi embassy in the country where the document was issued, and attestation by the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs. KBL & Associates prepares the certified court set so the chain can be completed in one pass rather than in repeated trips.
No, but it changes it. Where a parent is alive the court will want their position on the record, and Saudi residency files commonly ask for a separate attested permission from the father for the child to travel to and live in the Kingdom. We deal with both in Pakistan, where the father is, rather than leaving it to be chased from Riyadh.
Usually yes. A power of attorney executed at the Pakistan Embassy in Riyadh or the Consulate General in Jeddah, or notarised and apostilled, allows a Lahore advocate to appear. Many clients instead sign the power of attorney during annual leave in Pakistan, which removes the step altogether.
Yes. Pakistani law does not permit a non-Muslim to be appointed guardian of a Muslim child, or a non-Christian to be appointed guardian of a Christian child, and a child abandoned at an Islamic orphanage is treated as Muslim absent evidence otherwise. We raise this at the first conversation.
